Food Safety

Food is wonderful.  It nourishes us, keeps us going, and unites everyone under a common cause: get together and get full.  However, since food is one of the necessary components of life it needs to be safe or else horrible things can happen such as a disease outbreak.  There are several steps and ways to understand the discipline of food safety.  The first part of food safety you need to understand is fairly simple: always wash your hands before you eat or prepare food.  Make sure to get all of the grime and filth that stays on your hands throughout the day.  Another way to embrace food safety is store your food properly.  Keep cool food items refrigerated and keep room temperature products in a pantry or cabinet.  Don’t let your cooled items spoil.  Spoiled food can be very detrimental to your health.  Finally, the last way to embrace food safety for beginners is to never buy food past their “sell by” or “Use by” date.  These labels are here for a reason.  I you have a loaf of bread or some milk that has gone passed its date, it is better to just throw it out.
